The Little Tree is a charming and intimate
four room bed and breakfast.
Built with real adobe mud bricks and mortar in 1990, you will have all the benefits of modern construction
while still in an
authentic adobe hacienda that is re-mudded every year! The center garden
courtyard's portal, with comfortable rocking chairs and benches, provides the
perfect place to take in our vast 360* views. Light years from reality,
our rural setting allows the
quiet to seep into your bones. |
The Taos News, "Recharge your batteries at The Little Tree",
September 3-9, 2009.
When you curl up for an afternoon
nap at the Little Tree Bed and Breakfast,
it’s to the ethereal drone of the hummingbirds
and the rustling of the apple tree leaves. They contribute to
an entire atmosphere that invites you to slow down, tune in and rejuvenate.
The inn enjoys breathtaking
views of the surrounding mountains.
It’s about equidistant from the Town of Taos and Taos Ski Valley and has
no roadside sign, in the hopes of maintaining its relative under-the-radar
status. The inn’s buildings are all adobe, including exteriors of
mud-and-straw plaster rarely found
in modern buildings. It allows the adobe bricks to “breathe” and creates
a feeling of connection with the
elements even while inside. Sculptural details, like nichos and windows
between rooms, help create a sense of sanctity. All four guest rooms have private baths, plush queen-sized beds, unique décor
and private entrances. "Our guests can be as private or as social as they
want,” explains Maggie. “People that are drawn here though,
tend to be on a deeper journey, whether they’re
traveling solo, or as a couple
or with a friend.” Ritz-Carlton escapees, The
Johnston's have run the inn for the last 10
years and have worked in hospitality their entire
adult lives. For them, serving people is about much more than making a
living. They see it as their life mission. Despite all the elegance, the
atmosphere is anything but stuffy. “It’s beautiful to see folks show
up to breakfast in their bathrobes,” says Maggie. “There’s no greater
feeling than a guest feeling at home.”
Frommer's American
Southwest 2008 and Frommer's
2007 Guide to Santa Fe, Taos and Albuquerque - A Frommer's Find. "Little
Tree is one of my favorite Taos bed-and-breakfasts, partly because it's
located in a beautiful, secluded setting, and partly because it's
constructed with real adobe that's been left in its raw state, lending the
place an authentic hacienda feel. Visiting hummingbirds enchant guests
as they enjoy a scrumptious breakfast on the portal."

New
Mexico Magazine, May 2005.
"A stellar B&B, the moderately priced
Little Tree scores high marks - it rests upon a slope of sagebrush near
Arroyo Seco, affording guests eye- popping views of the Sangre de Christo
mountains to the east and the Rio Grande Valley to the west. The four guest
rooms in this authentic adobe house surround a hummingbird-happy garden and
contain Saltillo-tile floors and rustic but refined Southwestern
furnishings."

From Our Guest Book:
Maggie & Gordon ~
Henri Nouwen, a Dutch-born Catholic Priest, who
wrote several modern classics on spirituality, gave a definition of
Hospitality. He said that hospitality is the practice of making space so
that guests have room to truly be themselves. To heal. To grow.
You two are the Definition of Hospitality. You make
space, physically & spiritually. You feed us well ~ with healthy &
delicious food ~ with the beauty of the space, indoors and outdoors ~ with
sparkling and informative conversation ~ with a depth of spirit.
We want to add this:
You two complement each other ~ making a kind of hospitality synergy. Thank
you for being you!

A Note on
our Location: Please use the directions listed on this website. A number
of websites, map engines and guidebooks map us incorrectly on Hwy 64 to
Angel Fire. In addition, Trip Advisor lists us in
"Arroyo Hondo" rather than "Taos". Arroyo Hondo is our
zip code for postal service.
To put Taos in perspective,
The Little Tree is located on the north side of Taos ~ 15
minutes north of Taos Plaza, 5 minutes west of the village of Arroyo Seco
(at the base of Taos Mountain ) and 20 minutes from Taos Ski Valley. Ranchos de Taos is 15 minutes south of Taos
Plaza. Taos Plaza is the town center. Between town and the outer areas
of Taos (where we are), you will find rural farming & ranching
homesteads, residential homes and small business clusters.
Guests desiring quiet lodging or panoramic scenic views generally prefer
staying away from the town center. Here is a good
map that puts Taos B&B's in perspective.
